Lewis Perkins: A good Influential Leader
Lewis Perkins who has achieved much remarkable success at the University of Connecticut as athletics director arrived in University of Kansa and served the same role since June 2003. He was chosen as the best sports executive in the world which was revealed when a public voting was conducted by Time Magazine. He later decided to end his services in September 2010 which was said to be a year earlier than what other people have expected. Perkins was married to a lovely woman who like him, has earned a master’ s degree in education in the University of South Carolina and obtained an undergraduate degree from Iowa. He has two daughters named Amy and Holly and two granddaughters.
Perkins is from Chelsea, Massachusetts who was first introduced to his high school Hall of Fame in 1989. He earned his undergraduate degree in the University of Iowa where he was known to be the top recruited basketball player. In between 1969 to 1980 he served as the head basketball coach and Director of Athletics at the University of South Carolina Aiken. In 1975 he received his master’s degree in education from the University of South Carolina. It was May 2005 when Lewis Perkins obtained an honorary Doctor of Education degree at the USC Aiken. He has also shared his skills and knowledge as athletics director at the Wichita State University and University Of Maryland as well as an associate athletic director at the University of Pennsylvania.
Later in 2000 the Street and Smith Sports Business Journal gave him a reward as the inaugural winner of the National Athletic Director of the year. While at the University of Connecticut Lewis Perkins has been working on shaping athletes to make a better improvement academically, athletically and financially. Through all his efforts and good leadership he had influenced the team to be included in six NCAA Division 1 National Championships. Another great influential achievement he made was the remarkable growth of the annual budget of Kansas Athletics fundraising. With this certain improvements in the athletic facilities and venues has been improved. A beautiful new clubhouse is now included in the baseball complex along with the state of the art video board, indoor hitting facility and a new scoreboard. The great contribution of Perkins has also encouraged rehabilitation works with the creation of new Aquatic Rehabilitation Center houses which was under the supervision of the Sports Medicine Staff of the University of Kansas.
